What to bring, what OHIP covers, and how renewals, results and records work here.
Before your visit
Four things to bring, and how a walk-in visit goes once you are here.
Bring these
- Your Ontario health cardEvery visit. Without a valid card there is a fee; ask at the desk first.
- Your medicationsThe bottles or a photo of the labels, including anything over the counter you take regularly.
- Your previous doctor's nameSo records, results and immunization history can be requested.
- For children: the immunization cardThe yellow card, or a printout from your previous clinic.
How a walk-in visit goes
- Check in at the deskHealth card, a phone number, and what you have come in for.
- Take a seatPatients are seen in order of arrival. If you get worse while you wait, tell the desk.
- See the doctorWhat's wrong, since when, what you have tried. An examination where it is needed.
- Leave with what you needA prescription for your pharmacy, a requisition, a referral, or a date to come back.
Last walk-ins are taken before closing, so come early if you can.
OHIP and fees
Most visits are covered by your Ontario health card. A few things are not, and the desk will always tell you the fee before you are seen.
Covered by OHIP
- Visits for illness and injury
- Check-ups and chronic-condition follow-ups
- Children's visits and immunizations on the Ontario schedule
- Prenatal care
- Most tests, requisitions and referrals
Not covered fee applies
- Sick notes and most forms
- Driver's and third-party physicals
- Some travel vaccines
- Copies of your records
- Visits without a valid health card
No health card yet?
Come anyway. You pay for the visit and keep the receipt. Apply for OHIP at a ServiceOntario centre as soon as you can; the desk can tell you what to bring there.

Renewals, results and referrals
The three requests the desk gets most, and how each one works.
Prescription renewals
Book a renewal visit online or call the desk. Bring the bottle or a photo of the label so the dose and pharmacy are right. Controlled medications and anything that needs monitoring are renewed at an appointment, not by phone.
Ask a week before your last dose.
Results and records
Results come back to the clinic; book a follow-up to go through them. For a copy of your chart, ask the desk for a records-release form. Records can be sent to you or to another clinic with your written consent.
Transferring in? Give the desk your previous clinic's name.
Referrals
The referral is sent from the clinic and the specialist's office contacts you with a date. Wait times vary by specialty.
If you have not heard in a few weeks, call the desk and we will check on it.
Becoming a patient
Ask first: the desk will tell you whether the clinic is currently accepting new patients. Families can register together.

Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours and are seen in order of arrival. Booking a time is the way to skip the wait.
Can I be seen without a family doctor here?
Yes. The walk-in clinic is open to everyone with a health card, whether or not you are registered as a patient.
How long is the wait?
It depends on the day. Right after opening and late afternoons are usually the busiest; the desk can give you an idea when you check in.
Can I get a sick note?
Yes, at a visit. Notes and forms are not covered by OHIP, so there is a fee.
What should I do when the clinic is closed?
For an emergency, call 911. If you are not sure whether it can wait, Health811 (call 811) is a free nurse line, 24 hours a day.
